Osamu Tezuka (手塚 治虫) was a manga author and creator of many of the first Japanese animation. While Tezuka’s best known creation is, arguably, the world-renowned children’s series Astro Boy, he drew more than 150,000 pages of manga in his lifetime - touching on every style and genre. He wrote for every age-group, from young children to mature audiences, and single-handedly created the majority of the genres and character-types we see in manga and anime today.

Over the last decade, interest in anime and manga has grown exponentially, and expanded all over the world. But this popularity and social relevance is largely the result of the imagination and creativity of one great man: Osamu Tezuka. With that in mind, Brazilian fans have decided to get together and create a big event, not only to pay tribute to this comic book master, but to make Japanese pop culture fans know and understand his huge legacy.
Uniting the biggest Brazilian websites, blogs, videoblogs and podcasts focused on Japanese pop culture, December 17th was chosen as "Tezuka Day" – a day to get to know more about the author and his works through reviews, contests and promotions. We are hoping to see the hashtag #TezukaDay as a Trending Topic on Twitter and to do that, we are asking for the cooperation of every fan, regardless of nationality, so on that day Osamu Tezuka’s name will be known by everybody!
Thank you,
Team #TezukaDay
