While the 2nd one says set 2, the first one says 'end.' I do not know if it is the 1st set. Does anyone here read Japanese?

The description isn't in Japanese, atually. Think it must be Chinese.

There are 48 episodes in the series, if that helps, and the one that has "end" says it contains 10 discs, 48 episodes, while the Set 2 one says 5 discs, eps 25-48...and is more expensive...no idea what's going on there.

I have yet to be anything but guessing, sa I have not been checking the menu to see if it works, or the [NEXT] BUTTON either. In the 2003 bootleg, pushing [NEXT] often makes the thing start over rather than skipping to the next chapter. It could have been misinformation that made it say 10 discs, but again, who knows. But clearly, the SHIPMENT UNIT as I understand it, always equals the # of discs, so there could be a simple error. Still, 16/ disc! :roll:

Shipment unit does not always equal amount of discs, just look at . It's just a method of calculating shipping, in this case Live Astro Boy is worth 5 DVDs in weight.

There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that this is a bootleg for more than one reason. 16 episodes per disc is unacceptable, region-free discs, especially when specified as locked, almost never happens for anime, and the previous two-part release had a shipment unit of 3 for each part, and were noted as "5-DVDs" each. It would make no sense for the distributor to release the series a first time as either 6 or 10 DVDs total, and do a rerelease with only 3 DVDs.

Whether or not it is bootleg, I see no other source of this series at anywhere near this price. :lol:

While I might not have bought it had I known it was bootleg, now that I have it, I will keep it. :lol:

Yes, I would have liked to say that, had I known it was bootleg, I would not have ordered it, but I lack the confidence to do so. Moreover, I doubt that I would ever try to obtain a RMA for this, but it might be interesting to try.
