Convenient plot device, as I've said a million times before. How do we make Black Jack look unavailable for crazy fanfic pairings and give him a cute sidekick all in one (who happens to be older than the standard kid sidekick but still inexplicably has the attitude of a 7 year old?) ....... the mysteries of Pinoco.
