Norse Necktall

Also known as ノールス・ヌケトール (Nōrusu Nuketōru)

Hello, My Name (in English) is…

Coming soon!

Distinguishing Features

With his long neck, and even longer mouth sucking on an ever-present cigarette, Norse Necktall is easy to pick out of a crowd.

Status: Secondary Star (★★)

Given his slightly odd appearance, you might be forgiven for thinking he’s just another goofy comedy relief character, but despite being a bit sloppy, Norse Necktall is actually quite shrewd and usually finds himself playing either administrative or media-related roles. Although he is a somewhat shady figure, and often misguided in his support of the “wrong” side, though rarely if ever outright evil.

Notable Roles

His character traits were made quite evident in his debut role in Metropolis (1949), where he appears as a minor member of the Red Party. Although he’s a member of the group, he doesn’t do great harm through the politics of the group.  However, two of his more major roles are as the Editor-In-Chief, Mr. Onore, in The Road to Utopian Lurue (1951)  and as Inspector Zamyotov in Crime and Punishment (1953).

Besides these role, he is a near-constant presence in important Tezuka works.  He has made appearances in Next World (1951), Lion Books (1956-57),  Astro Boy (1952-68)Wonder 3 (1965-66), Dororo (1967-69), The Crater (1969-70), Alabaster (1970-71), Black Jack (1973-83), The Three-Eyed One (1974-78), and The Rainbow Parakeet (1981-82), among many others.
