Random Jungle Emperor Thought

One thing often cited about Tezuka's manga is the "cinematic" aspect of it--how he liberated his drawings from the static panel layout. In the Kimba/Jungle Emperor TV series, he played with the limitations of the TV screen: letterboxing some scenes, irising in on a character, wild transitions, even having a character walk around the sides and top of the screen. And a joke about bad film editing that didn't make it to the English version. There was none of that in Leo The Lion/Susume Leo. No playfulness at all. No silliness, either. There were often silly jokes in the manga. I don't think the hyoutan-tsugi ever showed up at all in Leo the Lion. I wonder why.
