Vertical's string of steady releases is certainly increasing the volume of Tezuka out in English, but France continues to be in the lead, with many new titles every year. The next release to hit France will be Midnight, a spinoff series of Black Jack about a taxi driver specializing in the dangerous hours after dark, who is working to pay off a debt to Black Jack. Continuing releases in France include a Phoenix rerelease, more Legend of Songoku, Ludwig B, and the long short story collection "Histoires pour Tous." To order these titles internationally try BDNet.com or Amazon.ca.
TezukaInEnglish.com Site updates:
We have not completed any major updates lately, but the new character index is almost complete, with thumbnails and brief bios on over 100 major Tezuka characters - a great tool for getting used to spotting the stars of Tezuka's star system. We have many more improvements in the works, including a general upgrade to make the site load faster, much more information on Astro Boy manga issues and TV episodes, and new galleries for fan art and general Tezuka pictures.
Events:
April 16th the San Francisco Museum of Asian Art is hosting a panel on Tezuka publishing, with attending representatives from Vertical, Viz and Dark Horse, Tezuka's major US publishers. TezukaInEnglish.com has been active in notifying us manga/anime publicaitons and news venues about this event to make sure it gets publicity, and we will be attending and meeting with publishing reps to discuss future projects for TIE to work with them to promote US Tezuka releases. This is a very exciting opportunity and we expect to have many exciting announcements after the conference is complete, so stay tuned?
