Translating Mitsume ga Tooru (Three-Eyed One) on the NES

Hello all, I'm in the process of translating the Mitsume ga Tooru game on the NES and I had some questions/concerns/ideas on the various names in the series.
From what I understand, at least some or all the names in the series are Sherlock Holmes references with Sharaku and Wato being Sherlock and Watson respectively. From all my googling etc, the names are simply romanized and any meaning or reference is lost in translation. I would very much like to localize the names in my translation to convey any meaning or reference.
Is there actually an official release of the series in English? I saw a kickstarter for the manga, but I'm not sure if they actually released anything.
Anyhow, I'm looking for some feedback etc. from people who are familiar with the series.
