It wasn't as good as my average expectations, but hey I liked it anyway. I wouldn't have if I wasn't a fan of animation and Tezuka though. My step sister liked it a lot though, more than Metropolis in fact (but she admits Metropolis is a "better movie", so I'm not quite sure yet what she preferred from Astro).
I didn't know we were at the last minute, so we got there when Toby just disappeared. Also, as soon as I entered the room, I could tell the picture had been stretched vertically, to about an 1.85:1 ratio, but the top and bottom were also cut. Characters talking often had their head cut. I complained to a staff guy but I doubt he'll do anything about it. I wish I could enter a theater that does nothing wrong at least once in my life.
Before someone corrects BBally and I, yeah, the movie went below 50% on RT on its US release. Lots of complaints that it's too mature for kids it seems like. Well duh, it's PG. Also, when reviewers think a movie ain't good for kids, it's always a hit with them anyway.
