I just thought I would ask, for those of you who are familiar with the Pluto manga, if it was worth the read along, with the price of admission?

Heck ya! I really really liked Pluto. Of course, I'm also a bit Urusawa fan. I waited until Monster was complete before reading it, and I've been buying 20th Century Boys on spec as well.
Having said that, I found it better to not have too many "Tezuka expectations" when reading Pluto. Despite some similar plot threads, it really is more Urusawa's gig than Tezuka's.

From the three volumes I read a while back I can definitely say this was almost overwhelmingly good. The kind of book you sometimes have to look away a bit and process all the powerful emotions it sends your way.

I thought Urasawa took what Tezuka started and fleshed it out fully, exploring much more character development (although not as much with Atom as I would have liked. Maybe he did that out of respect to Tezuka. But Uran was especially endearing).
I purchased the entire set, and it's worth every penny IMHO - if find myself re-reading sections over and over again (especially those parts that put the wonderful humanity of Ochanomizu and troubled heart of Tenma out there for you to experience). Makes a great Christmas gift for yourself!! XD
