Hi,
As mentioned , Tezuka's 1965 "Treasure Island" telefilm was dubbed in English. I've spoken to cartoon historians Fred Patten and Jerry Beck about the movie, and both men are certain that they viewed a rental copy from a 16mm film rental bureau (using these places was a popular-- albeit somewhat expensive-- way of enjoying rare films before VHS took hold in the 70s).
I've done some googling and made a couple of phone calls, but cannot find the dubbed version of this show. I'm intensely curious, I love old dubbed material! Has anyone seen it? Does anyone know of a rental bureau that still has a copy?

I bet it's a great movie. I hope we can buy it one day, particularly dubbed into English.

Well, keep in mind that this TV special is not related to Tezuka's New Treasure Island manga; it's a retelling of Treasure Island with animals. Not to be confused with either Animal Treasure Island, which features human protagonists and is a totally awesome, charming little movie, or with Treasure Island, one of Dezaki and Sugino's great, great TV shows of the 70s, which is totally awesome for different reasons.

I have the Japanese version,
for US$ 88.08
& it will be available on a newly released r2 DVD:
for US$ 66.22
I think they re-released these just to spite me for buying the earlier more expensive versions.

Well, I'm sorry if the re-pricing vexes you, but I will be buying the HELL out of the W3 set. Actually, I should go ahead and preorder it while it's on my mind.
I was aware that Treasure Island was out in R2-land, but I'm specifically seeking the English version. Haven't found any solid leads yet.

I ordered the , but they were already sold-outwhen they went to gather my order. I just was not interested anymore when it was re-. I believe the re-releses are limited qty, & it might already be too late to order them by now.

I bet it's a very good story.
That pirate's only got two toes on his feet. Is he supposed to be some animal himself?

All the characters are animals; Long John Silver is a fox, pirates are generally predatory animals, Ben Gunn is a lion, and some are mice.
