I was surprised to see that pages I had bookmarked were now entirely in Japanese, but after signing in, & reloading them, they were English. Note that the comics are in Japanese, but the images are not.

What do you mean "the comics are in Japanese, but the images are not"?

The text is Japanese, but the stories are told as much by the images as by the text. In Wansa-kun, it is easy to see that his digging holes all over his adoptive family's yard is not making them happy. BTW, there is a free preview of the book's pages up through #17. The reader's window covers 2 pages; that is pages 4 & 5 (the 1st ones of the story) are both visible at once.
