I want this DVD, but I can't figure out if it's legit or not... Seems kinda odd that it has Japanese packaging, especially since it has a Cantonese dub, but this may be a common thing for Japanese films in Hong Kong. Amazon China does not seem to carry any of the versions, and I couldn't find a website for the publisher, but it is mentioned on some anime websites. Someone selling it on Yahoo auctions also guarantees it is legit. "It is licensed from a major dealer in Hong Kong that has approval to sell the product."

As for a subbed copy, I found one and am trying to extract the burned subtitles using SubRip (which requires an awful lot of patience to learn how to use).

I have this, & as I recall, it is Region 3; suggesting a legitimate version. However, the subtitles on my disk are not optional. Thus, the images are always obscured by Chinese subs.

I realize it looks almost exactly like a known bootleg, except the DVD logo seems to be in the top left instead of bottom right. Once I receive it, I'll make sure there's no English subtitles before opening it up, and I'll test it in a region-locked player. I'm really hoping the Chinese subtitles aren't part of the picture as well, but I'm ready to be disappointed.

I received my copy. There's no doubt, it's official. Awesome menu, bonus trailers for Last Exile and One Piece, paper ad for other anime from e-muse in the box, and a nice surprise: the subtitles are NOT hard coded! Just a tad disappointed at the video quality. The DVD is only one layer (3.20 GB), with uncompressed Japanese audio, leaving little room for the video. I guess they just copied it from the VCD. It's still acceptable though.

So all in all, the Taiwan DVD is the version to get! You can find it on www.jsdvd.com
I didn't get charged any import taxes too!

Now here's hoping the Triton movie I ordered with it is also legit...
