Pinoco was largely unaffected by the stranger's infliction upon her, thanks to her darling sensei's impeccable handiwork. He was a genius after all, and it took much more than that to damage his finest creation.

"Of course I am fine!" Pinoco scoffed, and wagged a finger at Sapphire. "Boy or girl, don't you start getting any bright ideas about getting any closer to my sensei! You got that!" She gave Sapphire a cunning glare. "I'm only helping out here because I am always by sensei's side and he needs me! So you better stay on my good side, got it?"

Pinoco smiled smugly and leaned sassily towards Black Jack. "Ready to begin, sensei~?" She cooed.

"Sure thing, sensei! Heck, I don't need help lifting a skinny little thing like Sapphire." Gritting her teeth like a sumo wrestler, Wato attempted to lift Sapphire single-handed and set the patient on the table.

Black Jack sighed and placed his hand on Pinoco's head. "Pinoco, don't agitate the patient. She's in bad enough shape as it is."

He helped Wato move Sapphire to the operating table expertly set up by Pinoco and made sure she was comfortably set up. He turned to Wato. "Unless you don't mind lots of blood, you might want to step outside while I take care of this," he said with a daring gleam in his eyes.

"Whoa! Careful, there." Sapphire wiggled a bit in Wato's enthusiastic grip, but let him/herself be lifted and settled easily on the table. "About ready, doc? Can I stay awake for this one or are you going to have to put me under?"

"I don't mind blood, sensei, but if you want me outside I'll wait outside with these two bums." She nodded at Lamp and Kenichi beside her, then grabbed the doornob. "Shall I shut the door?"

Black Jack began inflating the antiseptic bubble around himself, Pinoco, and Sapphire. "Please. We don't want any customers coming in and seeing what I'm about to start," he said as he pulled on his gloves and turned to Sapphire. "I could just anaesthetize you, but I'm going to put you completely under just to be sure. Pinoco, if you please?"

Sapphire sighed. "Your call, doc, but I can't answer questions if I'm unconscious. Up to you."

Pinoco put on her surgical mask and nodded. "Got it, sensei!" Her large brown eyes moved to Sapphire. The expression on the patient's face was a familiar one--one of ultimate surrender and faith in the hands of Black Jack.

Pinoco lightly placed the gas mask over Sapphire's relaxed mouth. As far as Pinoco was concerned, she couldn't think of any better place to put one's trust. "Do your best." She said--whether it was to Black Jack or Sapphire, it wasn't quite certain.

Wato watched a moment as the gas started pumping, then closed the door softly and turned to Lamp and Kenichi who stood with her in the lobby. From where they were none of them could see or hear into the operating room, and it only took Wato a few seconds to look bored and frustrated not knowing what was happening inside. "Well... they'll probably be at that for a while, so would you mind introducing yourself, young man? As I said before, I'm Wato, I work up at the dig, and this detective is... was your name Lamp?"

Black Jack's mask and cap hid everything except for his brilliant eyes and his scarred face. He held his hands up as he stood over Sapphire while she slipped into unconsciousness. He took a breath and instantly slipped into his surgical trance.

"Commencing operation," he announced. "We will perform exploratory surgery to determine the exact cause of the patient's distress and attempt to cure it surgically." The first step would be to remove the patient's clothing. "Pinoco, scissors."

Sapphire winced at first at the taste of the gas, but started to inhale it slowly. His/her muscles began to relax, the muscles' spasms of pain diminishing as the anaesthetic started to take effect. "Do your best? He always does... don't you... that's why... you can... always... trust..." Sapphire's words were becoming weaker breath by breath as his/her eyes started to glaze. "... dirty... double-crossing... Kuroo..."

Pinoco faltered at Sapphire's nonsensical words, but knew what she had to do. Sensei had started the operation, and she had to do everything in her power to keep up. "Here." Pinoco held up a finely crafted, sharp pair of silver scissors.

He took the scissors and slipped the collar of Sapphire's shirt between the blades and squeezed. The blades easily bit through the fabric and Black Jack quickly and deftly cut the front of the shirt open. It became immediately apparent to even an untrained eye that this was not the body of a woman as he laid the shirt open and set the scissors aside. "Sterilize the area, Pinoco. And don't breathe a word of this outside this room."
