Jeffbert, well it is very difficult to come to a conclusion when people are so tight lipped about why they do what they do.

For instance, it was believed for the last 30+ years that the Smothers Brothers was canceled because of Steinberg's Sermon. The real reason was because the board of directors had a power shift, and it's since been made known that the head man was going to cancel the smothers brothers no matter what just because he didn't like them.

I'm not saying it wasn't logical to assume it had been Steinberg's Sermons. I probably would've thought it was the straw that broke the camel's back myself. But, it turned out it wasn't.

It's hard to figure out what is really going on when you don't have critical pieces of the puzzle at your fingertips.

I'm just lucky enough to know about Peter Pan for this particular instance to discount Disney.

Anyway here's a link to a webpage where this thing about Tink/Choppy and Tinker Bell is mentioned briefly as part of the write-up Kevin.

I for one think Choppy is a horrid name.

And if "Tink" can be construed as the same as "Tinkerbell" then Mushi Pro. could have sued Disney for the one-letter-name-difference between Kimba and Simba?

I get the feeling a lawsuit over Tink wouldn't have actually happened, but the people dubbing the series didn't know any better and would rather be "safe than sorry."
Another reason I'm under the impression that Sapphire wouldn't work in America as a movie is the basic premise. A girl with the heart of a boy. Now, WE all know there isn't any sexist intentions behind this, but if there's anything I've discovered about the culture of my country is that Americans are ready to get uppity and offended at just about anything. I've seen people claim Wall-E is racist because there aren't enough black people about the ship all the humans were living on  And then there's the person on Youtube that claimed Astro Boy promotes child porn because he's in his underwear all the time. I think if Princess Sapphire was brought into mainstream America, it would have similar backlash. People would claim it was sexist to assume a girl can't have boy-like qualities unless they were put in accidentally. To say nothing of the implications of cross-dressing. America tends to get very Gender conscious and tends to look funny at guys who dress as girls or girls who dress as guys or doing anything the LEAST bit gender crossing. I've seen parents who refuse to let their little boys play with 12" GI Joes because they "look like dolls." Oh, and there's the backlash Mattel suffered when they released the talking Barbie doll that said "Math is hard." People got outraged, assuming Mattel was implying women are stupid. We all here know that's bullplop, but I think we also know the world (and sometimes especially America) is full of stupid people and it's the stupid people that make most of the noise when they don't approve of something. Just my thoughts.

I can cite a few TV shows that featured women dressing as men; I can also assure you, they were anything but convincing male impersonators. Lucille Bal as "Carrot top Carmachael" a gangster, or Linda Lavin in a similar role. Hooray for me, because I swore-off sitcoms forever! :P Did they really think these were funny?

Anyway, back to the point: although there were these and other examples, I do agree that the idea of a woman needing a male heart to play the role of a male might not be too popular in light of the PC trends.

There is the tragic & I think criminal case of the boy who was born with a very small --. Doctors advised emasculation, dresses, dollies, and female hormones to turn him into a pseudo-female; albeit, one that could never reproduce. Parents agreed and they did to this helpless child worse things than Dr. Mengale ever dreamed of doing. The child grew up, & despite the injections of female hormones, and him having been raised as a girl, he developed a male personality, male sexual desires, etc. Hmm, I wonder why?

Regardless of what people believe about sex, sexuality, & such, with the exception of brian chemical imbalances and psychological problems, males are & always will be males, etc. There have always been tomboys, but these are still females at heart. Thus, the premise of Sapphire being born with both a female and male 'hearts' is at least somewhat plausible as far as fiction goes.

About cross-dressing, there is a long history of Hollywood having men dress as women, and even some women dressing as men. but the female voices and slender hands are dead give aways. What might irritate the domestic crowd would be a foreign film featuring the Ribon no Kishi plot.
