I don't really want to bog this down with more theology... but I've lived in Korea and am a "flexible buddhist/catholic".
Also, I may be wrong here, but Tezuka wasn't a Buddhist per-se. From what I understand he was more of a pragmatic Buddhist/Shinto with his own brand of spirituality. I've heard him called a Humanist, but if you read one of the forewords in Adolf, they discuss how he wasn't - at least by the strict definition of the word.
Also, there are quite a few "Star System" players in Buddha. Aside from Mustachio, there's the Assaji, and Tatta... and up for debate are Rock appearing as King Bimbisara and Yuki (from MW) showing up as Devadatta.
