This excellent history of manga includes discussion of Tezuka’s influence on the development of the genre, and includes a translated single issue from the “Karma” chapter of Phoenix (1967-88) – this was printed before Viz’s translated release of the complete “Karma” chapter. Winner of the Osamu Tezuka Culture Award Special Prize.
Fredrik Schodt is the translator of the Viz edition of Phoenix and of the bilingual Crime and Punishment and has probably done more work on Tezuka than any other American manga scholar.
