Mr. Akita’s normal-sounding name is the kind any Junior High School teacher might have and has no particular meaning in the manga.

Distinguishing Features

With Mr. Akita’s perpetual sunglasses and hip “beard-but-no-moustache” look, he is easy to spot in a crowd.

Status: Minor Star (★)

Mr. Akita is one cool customer.  As a teacher at Yakeno’s Junior High School, and the only one to believe Maria’s supernatural origins, he acts as a guiding figure of authority.  The founder of the B.G. Club, his intelligence and tolerance match his physical strength.

Notable Roles

Although he is first and foremost a member of the supporting cast in Yaketpachi’s Maria (1970-71), he did also have one small part in the Black Jack (1973-83) chapter “The Sewer Way”.
