Asagumo, Akira [aka Big X]
Also known as 朝雲昭 (Asakumo Akira)
Hello, My Name (in English) is…
Akira Asagumo. Deal with it.
Distinguishing Features
Akira is much more recognizable as his super heroic alter-ego, Big X – with his large muscular frame clad in a brilliant scarlet button down costume and winged helmet – than by any particular personal distinguishing features.
Status: Primary Star (★★★)
Another of Tezuka’s “Boy Heroes”, Akira is the heroic young son of a brilliant scientist. When he is gifted with the power to instantly grow his body to any size at will while gaining the relative muscle power that comes with it, he dedicates himself to defeating the Neo Nazi organization that is after the “Big X” formula.
Notable Roles
Although he is the titular star of his own lengthy series, Big X (1963-66), Akira has only made a couple of cameo appearances in other manga.
