Bandaka
Also known as バンダカ (Bandaka)
Hello, My Name (in English) is…
Bandaka.
Distinguishing Features
The arrogant Bandaka is easy to spot with his sharp chin and the dark bags under his all white eyes.
Status: Minor Star (★)
Self-absorbed and cocky, Bandaka is primarily a highly skilled bandit archer. An early rival of Siddhartha’s, vying for the lovely Princess Yashodara, he eventually connives and bullies his way to having himself named the heir to the Shakyan kingdom. Although he dies during the battle with the invading Kosalan army, his wife and young son, Devadatta survive.
Notable Roles
Although he is first and foremost an important early member of the cast of Buddha (1972-83), Bandaka and his white-eyed stare has also made an appearance as a doctor in the Black Jack (1973-83) chapter, “Pinoko Lives” (1974) – complete with a stereotypical surgeon’s head mirror standing in for his usual bandanna.
