Bongo’s name is identical in both English and Japanese. It has no special meaning, other than seeming appropriate for a boy raised in the jungle’s of South America.

This jungle-boy hero is recognizable by his three-pronged, backward hair sweep and distinctive bang curl.

As the star of his own series, Bongo is a Tarzan-like character based in the Amazon Jungle rather than deepest, darkest Africa. Raised by animals, and a descendant of the Incans, Bongo protects his jungle home from those who come seeking the treasures of his fore-fathers.
Notable Roles
Although his main appearance is in his own titular series, Bongo (1961), he has also been spotted in The Strange Boy (1961-62) as well as a cameo in Astro Boy (1952-68).
