Danke Stadt
Also known as ダンケ・シュテット (Danke Shutetto)
Hello, My Name (in English) is…
Despite his German-sounding name, Danke Stadt has no known special meaning in either Japanese or English.
Distinguishing Features
His forked beard, somewhat flat hair swoop covering one large eye and dark bags under the other, make for a somewhat ominous figure.
Status: Minor Star (★)
With such a menacing appearance, it might be easy to mistake Danke Stadt for a straight up villain. However his character is a bit more complex than that. In fact, you can practically feel the melancholy wafting off him. So, while he is driven to commit menacing deeds, they are usually the acts of desperation of someone perpetually down on his luck.
Notable Roles
Although he got off to a rather villainous start in his namesake role in Chief Detective Kenichi (1954-58), Danke has also had memorable roles in the Astro Boy (1952-68) chapter “Black Lux” (1957) as the captive of Black Lux, and later in the chapter “Beginning of the Contradiction” (1967) as a wood carver rendered obsolete by computer technology.
