Ganimard, Inspector
Also known as ガニマール (Ganimaru)
Hello, My Name (in English) is…
Inspector Ganimard. In the original stories by Maurice LeBlanc, Inspector Justin Ganimard was Arsène Lupin‘s dogged nemesis, endlessly pursuing the master thief from caper to caper.
Distinguishing Features
You can spot Inspector Ganimard but his arching double-eyebrows and his wrinkled frown – probably due to the fact that Lupin has given him the slip once more.
Status: Minor Star (★)
Much like his literary namesake, although Inspector Ganimard doesn’t have the intellectual prowess of his arch-nemesis, he makes up for it in dogged tenacity and determination.
Notable Roles
Inspector Ganimard made his debut as one of the master detectives brought in – alongside Sherlock Holmes himself! – in Metropolis (1949). He also made an appearance as the long arm of the law in The Wonderful Journey (1950). Although effectively retired after the early 1950s, he did make a bit of a resurgence, taking on several roles – on both sides of the law – in Black Jack (1973-83).
