Distinguishing Features

As a large and powerful tiger, Dan is easy to spot by his black striped coat and large chest tuft of white fur… Just do it from a safe distance.

Status: Primary Star (★★★)

Brave and strong, Dan is a former circus tiger who is fiercely loyal.  After Kyotan saves Dan from a forest fire, the two strike up an uneasy alliance.  Although Dan has a healthy distrust of humans after his years in captivity, he is impressed by Kyotan’s honest integrity and the two become fast friends.  When  Kyotan learns more about his heritage, the pair are virtually inseparable as they search for the keys to the ancient treasure of the Ainu people.

Notable Roles

Although he only appears as the star of his own titular series, Brave Dan (1962), Dan is one of the most memorable of all of Tezuka’s animal heroes.
